Soundshock Interview

Being super awesome and genuinely boss at everything we do here at SoundShock, we’re rarely blown away or taken by surprise, but one night in a seedy bar in Leeds, local band Super Luxury took to the stage and what followed was twenty-five minutes of some of the most energetic pure rock noise we have seen this year. Somewhere between their monster riffs, electrifying guitar solos, a loose cannon front man bouncing around the venue like Zebedee raging on speed, needless to say Super Luxury ticked all the right boxes on how to make a first impression.

Forming in December 2010 back when it was just founding member Chris and Charlie, they played their first shows with a drum machine, now a more traditional five piece the band combine loud groove riffs with the mind set of a hardcore band, the guys joke "it's sort of noise rock in the most literal sense, as if AC/DC drank too much Fosters and lost their minds". Since day one the guys have been putting a lot of energy into getting themselves exposed and although crowd reaction has been positive the band notes the importance of playing the right shows. "A hand full of people love it while a lot of people seem confused", but the band assure that they are not at all a novelty. "We see it as 50% a band and 50% an opportunity to mess about but because you have a sense of humor it means sometimes people don't always take you seriously.”

Fitting to their DIY approach the guys seem comfortable being the pariahs "all of us in our lives were never very cool so we like to embrace the fact we're the least cool band in Leeds, another band joked that we're not part of the scene but riding on its coat tails." Super luxury are either extremely humble about what they do or don’t quite realise how good of a band they are. Regardless if you’re fortunate enough to have these guys pass through your city, you’d do yourselves a favour to give them a try or at the very least checking out their down right bizarre website. Soundshock
